The city of Ohrid and the Sveti Naum Monastery are the most visited places by tourists in the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. One of the main reasons is that both destinations are surrounded by Lake Ohrid. Coming from Tushemisht and driving amid the National Park of Galicica, it is hard to see buildings and other human settlements. Once we arrived in Ohrid, we mainly encountered a high number of tourists, not locals. Our first stop was the castle that offered us also a panoramic view of the city. It is also known as Samuel's Fortress, which was once the capital of the first Bulgarian Empire, during the rule of Tsar Samuel in the 10th century. In fact, it was an earlier fortification, dating back to the 4th century BCE, probably during the reign of King Philip II.
